Eastern part of the Ahmedabad has historically lagged behind the western region in terms of development and access to basic amenities including avenues of higher education. It was with this perspective that the institute was set up on 6th September, 2005 as a part of the efforts to narrow down this divide and also to provide the students belonging to the eastern region, access to education leading to Bachelors degree in the discipline of commerce. The college had its humble beginning in the premises of Ramkrishna Krishna Vidyalaya, Maninagar with just 45 students and a few faculties deputed from other Government colleges. Soon, realising that a college in the school premises would not be feasible in the long run, we got shifted to our present location which was formerly known as Bihari Mill Compound. During the academic year 2005- 06, the college got affiliated to Gujarat University and was subsequently named as Shri K. K. Shastri Government Commerce College after the name of Dr. Keshavram Kashiram Shastri, an eminent literary scholar who has distinguished works in multiple languages including Sanskrit, Gujarati, English and Hindi to his credit.
